Wondering where all that hard drive space went on your computer?

If so, download WinDirStat at windirstat.info. It is free, open-source, and easy to use.
WinDirStat represents each file on your drive as a colored rectangle. The size of the rectangle indicates the size of the file compared to the other files. Click on the big blocks of color to find files that are no longer needed and that may be taking up valuable space.
NOTE: Be sure you know what you are deleting before you remove something from your hard drive.

I’ve downloaded this utility to two computers so far. The install is fast and simple. The program has a funky, retro, pac-man-as-progress-bar look while it is scanning and it has the strangest visual presentation of harddrive information I have ever seen. The image in Mark’s post is accurate but doesn’t do the real thing justice. The funny thing, though, is that the interface really works!. I got rid of 5GB on my home computer this morning that I never even knew I still had lying around (from transferring data from my previous computer no less — data three or four years old!).
Like Mark said, deleter beware! But you will be able to figure out where all your harddrive space has gone to.
